Non-destructive testing of steel cables using the magnetic inductive method
The SMRT-named system (Stuttgart Magnetic Rope Testing) is distributed by MESOMATIC on the basis of a cooperation agreement with the IFT (Institute of Mechanical Handling and Logistics) of the University of Stuttgart. Over 80 years of research and experience have gone into the development and continuous improvement. In addition to reliable operation, special emphasis is placed on easy handling under the sometimes difficult conditions of practical use.
The SMRT is ergonomically designed for one-man operation, operates independently of weather, surface and light and is not affected by snow, ice, dirt or poor lighting conditions in its precise measurements. The design of the magnets and the measuring coils ensures that even the smallest and most varied defects on and in the rope can be reliably detected, displayed and thus interpreted.
Rope diameters up to 140 mm can be tested with special designs from the IFT
A measuring system specially developed by IFT and MESOMATIC is used to evaluate the data. This consists of the precision measuring amplifier, a notebook with electronic data acquisition and automatic evaluation software. All components are integrated in a sturdy carrying case.
